This morning, after a long and serious illness, Vedrana Rudan died at her home. The news of the writer’s death was shared on her Facebook page with the message that she had “gone to an area without signal.”
“Showbuzz.hr” reports that the news was confirmed to their portal by sources close to the writer.
Vedrana Rudan (born October 29, 1949, in Opatija) was one of the most widely read, but also most controversial, contemporary Croatian writers, columnists and journalists.
She was known for her sharp, direct and provocative writing style without censorship.
She graduated from the Pedagogical Academy in Rijeka (Croatian and German language program). Before devoting herself fully to writing, she worked various jobs: she was a teacher, tour guide, ice cream producer and journalist.
She gained great popularity with her debut novel “Ear, Throat, Knife”, published in 2002. Successful titles followed, including “Love at First Sight”, “I, the Unbeliever”, “When a Man Lives”, “Skeletons from Madison County” and “Man in the Throat”.
In her autobiographical novel “Dance Around the Sun” from 2019, she honestly revealed details about her life, childhood, and its ups and downs, while in 2022 she published the novel “Life Imprisonment”.
On her blog, she also wrote about her daily battle with cancer.
