The President of the Association of Serbs from the Region, Miodrag Linta, stated today that the latest bulletin published by the Serbian National Council (SNV), which reports an increase in ethnically motivated physical violence in Croatia, confirms that the foundations of the state are rooted in Ustasha ideology and that it has failed to confront its Ustasha, genocidal, and criminal past.
Linta said that Croatian authorities are not prosecuting those who order or commit acts of hatred and violence in accordance with Article 325 of the Criminal Code, “Public Incitement to Violence and Hatred,” which provides for penalties of up to three years in prison.
“This is one of many pieces of evidence that one of the fundamental European values — the rule of law — is being violated in Croatia. Croatia also refuses to adopt a special law banning and criminally punishing the use of Ustasha symbols, the denial of concentration and death camps, and the glorification of Ustasha criminals,” Linta emphasized.
Speaking about attacks on Serbs in Croatia, he said these were not isolated incidents but rather part of an organized campaign by neo-Ustasha forces in the country, according to a statement from the Association of Serbs from the Region.

He added that hate speech manifests itself, among other things, through the widespread writing of offensive graffiti, false accusations that Serbs are provocateurs, calls for discrimination against Serbs in employment and education, the rehabilitation of the Ustasha regime and its symbols, the denial of the genocidal nature of the Independent State of Croatia (NDH) and its death camps, the denial or minimization of Serbian genocide victims, as well as the glorification of Ustasha ideology and war criminals.
He further stated that hate crimes are reflected, among other things, in physical violence against Serbs and the desecration of memorials dedicated to the National Liberation Struggle and Serbian victims of genocide during World War II.
The Serbian National Council in Zagreb announced that during 2025, Croatia recorded an increase in ethnically motivated violence, threats, and vandalism directed against members of the Serbian community, alongside intensified hate speech, historical revisionism, and attempts to rehabilitate the Ustasha regime of the Independent State of Croatia (NDH).
