A 51-year-old Serbian citizen died two days ago due to severe bodily injuries sustained in a fight in Naples. Italian investigators have now determined that the conflict occurred between the deceased Serb and two of his compatriots who sustained minor injuries during the fight.
Although it was initially suspected that the three Serbs were injured in a conflict with another group of men, of Italian nationality, the investigation determined that they had actually argued and fought among themselves.
The street fight, let’s recall, took place on July 26, three hours after midnight, on Via Trieste Street, located on the outskirts of Naples. The Serb died from his injuries, and his two friends were hospitalized on that occasion.
“The first information that appeared after the murder was that the Serbs had clashed with some Italians, and that the fatal blows to the Serbian citizen were inflicted by a member of the rival group. However, after investigators thoroughly reviewed all surveillance cameras in the street where the fight occurred, it was determined that the three Serbs, under the influence of alcohol, actually fought among themselves,” Italian media state, adding:
“It is true that there was initially a conflict with Italians, but in the bar where they had previously been drinking. But the conflict allegedly continued between the Serbs outside the bar located at the intersection of Via Trieste and Via Leopardi. The Serbs were hitting each other with their hands and feet, and this is allegedly visible in the security camera footage. The autopsy showed that the murdered Serb had numerous injuries on his body, and that a blow to the head was fatal, deadly.”
The deceased was found in a pool of blood at the entrance to a general store run by a Ukrainian citizen, local media report.
“After the report that a man was lying motionless on the street, carabinieri immediately went to the scene, as did an ambulance team. The man had visible injuries all over his body, and it was immediately determined that the death was violent,” the media writes, adding that the two Serbs were transported by ambulance to a local hospital, and they also had numerous visible injuries and bruises on them.
The motive for the conflict is currently unknown, but it is believed that alcohol culminated in the conflict. The investigation is being led by the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Nola, which has not yet officially commented on this incident. However, as we learn, witnesses are being interviewed and additional surveillance camera footage is being collected.
As they subsequently stated, it is not excluded that some measures will be taken against the two injured men from Serbia, who have not yet been detained.
