U.S. President Donald Trump announced today that he will extend the deadline for TikTok to find an American buyer or face a ban, giving the Chinese company ByteDance an additional 75 days to reach an agreement.

“My administration has worked very hard on a deal to save TikTok, and we have made tremendous progress. The deal requires more work to ensure that all necessary approvals are signed, which is why I am signing an executive order for TikTok to continue operating for an additional 75 days,” Trump posted on his platform Truth Social.

He emphasized that he hopes to continue cooperating on this matter with China, which he said is “not exactly happy about the reciprocal 10 percent tariffs” that went into effect on Thursday.

“This proves that tariffs are the most powerful economic tool and very important for our national security! We do not want TikTok to disappear. We look forward to working with TikTok and China to finalize the agreement,” said the U.S. President.

American app stores removed TikTok several days before January 19, but Trump, on his first day in office on January 20, suspended the ban on the Chinese platform for 75 days, until April 5.

Trump previously stated he is willing to extend TikTok’s operation in the U.S. once more if necessary for the parties to sign the agreement.

Last month, Donald Trump authorized U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance and National Security Advisor Michael Waltz to oversee the potential sale of TikTok.
