Riccardo Orsolini, one of Bologna’s best players, did not forget Siniša Mihajlović even in moments of greatest celebration after Bologna defeated Milan 1-0 in the Coppa Italia final.
The decisive goal was scored by Dan Ndoye in the 52nd minute, and both Milan and Bologna fans were on edge until the very last moment.
Finally, the moment came for Orsolini, who has been a member of Bologna since 2018, to lift the trophy and speak about Siniša Mihajlović, who coached the club for years.
Mihajlović was the one who recognized Orsolini, brought him to Bologna, and gave him complete freedom in his play. He will never forget how much the Serb influenced his career.
He insisted that Alessandro del Piero translate his words, and Del Piero, visibly moved, looked down at the grass.
“This is a victory for those who always believed, for all those who suffered and waited for so many years. For those who have passed, for those who remained, and for those who are unfortunately no longer with us. Here I am primarily thinking of Siniša Mihajlović; this trophy is also his,” Orsolini said.
Emotions were extremely strong at that moment, but he tried to remain composed and calm.
“I still have to ‘digest’ everything. This is a victory we wanted so much, for which we all sweated so much in the end. You don’t often feel such emotions in life. For someone who has suffered and waited so much like the Bologna fans, there is nothing more beautiful. Look how many of them came to the Olimpico; emotions drove people to exodus from Bologna to Rome, and I think that because of all these emotions, the journey was worth every kilometer,” he emphasized.
Orsolini has scored 15 goals and provided four assists in 37 matches this season. In the Coppa Italia, he scored two goals in four appearances. Bologna now faces a battle for the Champions League.
