Members of the Perić family in Gračanica stated that they received insults and threats from an unknown Albanian, because they intended to reinforce the memorial plaque with a photograph of their daughter Biljana, who died on the main road.
The memorial plaque, erected 30 years ago in memory of their tragically deceased daughter Biljana, was removed some time ago by an Albanian who bought the property next to the Perić family and became their neighbor.
After the reaction of the police and the public, the Albanian neighbor tried to return the monument, however, the Perić family reacted because it was an improvised return of the memorial plaque.
Today, they tried to reinforce the base of the memorial plaque but experienced inconveniences.
“We came to return the memorial plaque that was torn down, and our neighbors, who are now preventing us from putting up the plaque, got involved. An unknown person came and threatened that he was from the KLA, he showed us a KLA ID. He threatened to demolish, he threatened with all sorts of things. The police were there, they told us to wait until tomorrow, that we can put it up,” said Aleksandar Perić, the brother of the deceased girl.
The mother, Dušica Perić, conveyed that the unknown Albanian, with threats, said “this is not Belgrade, but Kosovo, that it is not Milošević.”
“He said all sorts of things and threatened. We plan to return the plaque, to fight with all means we can since this is road land, he could not have bought this. He bought from the gate, he shouldn’t have bought this either. We will see what happens next, tomorrow is Monday, to see what we can do,” said Aleksandar Perić.
Touching the memorial plaque is considered desecration of the place where their daughter died by the Perić family, and they announce a lawsuit against the new owner of the neighboring property, invoking the Constitution and the Law on the Protection and Advancement of Community Rights, which includes the protection of roadside monuments.
