Serbian MMA has a new major reason to celebrate, and talented Vasilija Borovićaninis responsible for it! The young Serbian national team member achieved a fantastic result at the World Championship in Abu Dhabi, where she managed to defend the title she won last year and thus became world champion for the second consecutive year.

The 16-year-old member of the Feniks MMA team from Kraljevo competed in the Youth B category up to 67 kilograms and once again showed that she belongs among the very best in the world in her generation. On her way to the gold medal, Borovićanin recorded four victories, with every one of her fights ending in a unanimous decision by the judges in her favor.

The Serbian competitor defeated two representatives of Ukraine, as well as an opponent from Angola, earning her place in the grand final. There she faced a familiar opponent – England’s Daisy Bowers, whom Vasilija also fought for gold at the previous World Championship.

The final brought another excellent performance from the young Serbian fighter. Borovićanin controlled the fight and was particularly impressive in the wrestling segment. She seriously threatened with submission attempts several times, while spending most of the bout in a dominant top position.

The judges ultimately had no doubt. The victory went to Vasilija by unanimous decision, allowing her to defend her world title and once again confirm her enormous potential.

Serbia continues its medal hunt in Abu Dhabi

Vasilija Borovićanin’s gold medal, however, is not the end of Serbia’s ambitions at the championship in Abu Dhabi. The Serbian national team will have new fights and opportunities to win medals in the coming days.

Until Sunday, Amir Karišik, Andrei Geca, Vuk Maksimović and Luka Tošović will compete for medals, including gold, meaning Serbia could finish the championship with several more major results.
