A video released by the “Faculty of Dramatic Arts Students in Blockade” on social media might be the best way to show how the government’s narrative has changed and how many times Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has “changed his tune” over the past nine months.
After President Vučić invited the protesting students to a “dialogue” and “debate on camera,” they responded with a categorical “NO.” Following their rejection, pro-regime media and government officials continued to target them, claiming the students “don’t have a platform, which is why they refused to talk.”
The students from the Faculty of Dramatic Arts explained why they rejected what Vučić calls a dialogue. They released a video featuring various statements and messages from the Serbian president—from ones where he calls for dialogue to others where he claims there will be no negotiations.
The students’ final conclusion in the video was: “You don’t need an opponent when you lie this much.”

As a reminder, Aleksandar Vučić had invited the students to a TV debate in the past week. After a period that saw brutal abuse of students and citizens by police and SNS thugs, the president suddenly decided that violence was not the answer and that everything should be resolved through discussion.
“I propose a discussion and debate on all our television channels and portals, with legitimate representatives they choose. I am ready to go against… and not against, I apologize, and that’s what confirms my mistakes… I am ready to enter into a public dialogue and debate with three or four people who think differently. They have the right to demand that from their president, including elections and everything else,” Vučić had said.
The students’ response came quickly, stating that a debate would be possible once he called for elections.
“The president invited us to a public debate. It’s obvious he has no answer to the people’s revolt, so now he wants to talk to us, whom he has been calling terrorists for months. We will debate visions and platforms for the future during an election campaign, once he calls for elections,” the students stated, among other things.
