The OK Borac volleyball players from Čačak, who recently won the national championship, have been banned by the City Administration from using all municipal sports halls, reportedly because club employees did not provide support to the Serbian Progressive Party.

The decision directly affected around 400 girls who train at the club and have been left without the opportunity to practice volleyball in the city’s sports facilities.

According to claims made in a video, OK Borac has been under pressure from the local authorities for more than a year. The club was initially removed from the sports hall in Atenica, and it has now also been prevented from using other municipal sports halls.

The case sparked strong reactions from the public, after which information emerged that city officials had allegedly announced that the volleyball players would once again be allowed to train in municipal facilities starting Monday. However, that information has not been officially confirmed so far.

Particular attention has been drawn to claims that sports clubs in Čačak are expected to provide political support to the ruling party, and that those who do not participate in party activities risk losing financial support. According to these allegations, OK Borac is one of the few clubs that has refused to accept such a practice, which is why it has been facing pressure for a prolonged period.

The highest price in the entire dispute, however, is being paid by the young volleyball players – around 400 of them are currently being denied regular training, despite the club having recently achieved a major sporting success by winning the national championship.
