Serbia’s U18 women’s junior tennis team won the European Championship title after defeating Hungary 2-0 in the final of the European Championships in Granville, France.
Serbia took the lead thanks to Lana Virc, who defeated Luca Kalman in three sets (6-1, 4-6, 6-1), while Anastasija Cvetković secured the decisive victory against Lujza Beviz, also after three sets, 6-7, 6-1, 6-0.
The Serbian team, led by captain Lana Spremo, also included Dušica Popovski, who missed the entire final tournament due to a finger injury.
Earlier in the competition, Serbia defeated Bulgaria 2-0 in the quarterfinals (both victories coming in singles), while the Czech Republic was beaten by the same score in the semifinals.
“We are overjoyed with this tremendous success. Throughout the entire championship, the girls showed exceptional character, determination, and unity, and they fully deserved this title. I am proud of the way they represented Serbia and of everything they invested to reach the gold medal. I believe this is only the beginning and that even greater achievements await them in the future,” said Lana Spremo.
Serbia’s U16 men’s junior team finished sixth at the European Championships, earning qualification for the Junior Davis Cup, which will be held in Cairo from November 2 to 8.
The Serbian men’s team, led by captain Ladislav Demeter, consisted of Pavle Stojiljković, Igor Perić, and Luka Kostić.
