Students from Serbia won two gold, one silver, and two bronze medals at the jubilee tenth European Physics Olympiad EuPhO 2026 in Gothenburg.
Serbia was represented by a five-member team led by Branislav Cvetkovic, a scientific advisor at the Institute of Physics and a professor at the Mathematical Grammar School and the Computing Grammar School.
At the Olympiad held from June 12 to 16, 36 European and 7 guest countries participated, among which were the teams of China and the USA, as published on the website of the Mathematical Grammar School.
The total number of contestants was 199, and according to the number of medals won, Serbia took second place in Europe, right behind Ukraine, which won three gold medals.
Gold medals were won by Mathematical Grammar School students Andrej Drobnjakovic and Luka Smiljanic.
The silver medal was won by Dusan Lazic, a student from the Grammar School in Kraljevo.
Bronze medals were won by Jovan Kulezic, a student at the Mathematical Grammar School, and Veljko Adzic, a student at the Computing Grammar School.
A special success was achieved by Andrej Drobnjakovic, who was the second-best contestant from Europe.
The students’ trip to the European Physics Olympiad and the support for their participation in this significant competition was made possible by the Telekom Srbija company.
Eleven students from Serbia also participated in the international Stemko Mathematics Olympiad, which was held from June 17 to 21, 2026, in Singapore, 11 students from Serbia participated, and the students of the Mathematical Grammar School achieved notable success, winning two silver and one bronze medal.
