Singer Jelena Karleuša has had another performance abroad canceled, this time in Gothenburg, Sweden, where she was scheduled to perform at the “Jacy’z” hotel on November 6. The organizers issued an official statement confirming that the concert would not take place because of her latest political statements on social media.

This is the second canceled performance for the singer within a short period, following the earlier cancellation of her concert in Germany.

Organizers reveal reason for cancellation

A notice had previously been published on the official website of the “Jacy’z” hotel announcing that the performance would not take place, but without providing any further explanation.

In the meantime, the organizers issued a statement explaining why the decision had been made.

“As a consequence of the performer’s latest political statements on her social media accounts, we have decided that the concert scheduled for November 6 cannot take place at the hotel where it was originally planned,” they stated.

The organizers apologized to the audience members who had purchased tickets and planned to attend the performance.

“I fully respect the hotel’s decision and would like to offer a big and sincere apology to all of you who purchased tickets and were looking forward to this evening,” they said.

Karleuša responds: “This is called a blatant suppression of freedom of speech”

Following the publication of the statement, Jelena Karleuša responded in the comments section from her new Instagram account, expressing dissatisfaction with the organizers’ decision.

“Extremely sad. This is called a blatant suppression of freedom of thought and speech. I have never used my concerts and performances to talk about politics. My views are my private matter and have nothing to do with my music career,” the singer wrote.

She went on to criticize those supporting the cancellation of her performance.

“But fine. Anyone who rejoices when others are being harmed will have life return the same treatment to them. And from now on, call those who have neither a position nor an opinion. Apparently, those are the acceptable ones,” Karleuša added.

Organizers respond: “Public statements have an impact on the public”

The organizers subsequently responded to the singer, emphasizing that their intention had not been to deny her the right to express her opinion.

“It was never my intention to deny anyone the right to an opinion or to question anyone’s personal views. We all have our own opinions and positions, and I believe no one has the right to influence them. Nevertheless, public statements have an impact on the public, and the situation led to circumstances that we, as individuals, could no longer influence,” the response stated.

They added that they regretted the cancellation and that their intention had been to bring people together through music.

“I am sincerely sorry that everything ended this way, because my only wish was to bring people together through music and create something memorable. I wish you all the best and sincerely hope for a better future, for all of us and for our people from the Balkans, regardless of political, religious or other beliefs. I wish everyone happiness, peace and mutual respect,” the organizers said.

Second canceled performance in a row

It should be recalled that Karleuša recently also had a performance in Germany canceled, also because of her political statements.

The cancellation of the concert in Gothenburg therefore represents the second such case within a short period, with the organizers making it clear that the decision was connected to the singer’s public statements rather than her musical repertoire.
