There are bonds that are not forgotten, even when they are thousands of kilometers away. It is precisely out of that quiet but very strong need for children to get to know a part of themselves that often remains out of reach, that the Mileva Project was born – a humanitarian foundation that has now officially begun its work.
Guided by the idea that belonging is not taught, but experienced, the foundation enables children of Serbian origin from the United States of America, aged 2 to 18, to get to know the land of their roots, not through photographs and stories, but through a personal encounter. By financing the travel, the Mileva Project opens the door to an experience that has not been available to many families until now.
For many children born far from Serbia, the connection with their origin is often reduced to family memories, the language heard at home, or holidays celebrated within the immediate family circle.
That is precisely why the Mileva Project wants to make that connection alive, to turn it into an encounter, into the first touch with people, places, and a sense of belonging that remains forever.
As the foundation emphasizes, behind this initiative stands a simple but deep conviction:
“We believe that every child deserves the opportunity to feel where they belong, but also to see, hear, and experience a part of themselves they have not yet met.”
