Fifteen people were injured when a skydiving plane veered off the runway and crashed into woods near an airport in southern New Jersey, authorities announced.

The incident occurred at an airport approximately 34 kilometers southeast of Philadelphia. The plane, carrying 15 individuals, departed the runway, according to a spokesperson for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which is currently investigating the crash, as reported by AP.

Three people were transported to the trauma center at a hospital in Camden, New Jersey, while eight individuals with minor injuries were admitted to the emergency department, stated hospital spokesperson Wendy Marano.

A person who answered the phone at Cross Keys Airport on Wednesday said they had no information and directed inquiries to Skydive Cross Keys, a commercial skydiving company located at the airport. Skydive Cross Keys did not immediately respond to an AP email seeking comment.

The Gloucester County Office of Emergency Management warned the public on its Facebook page to avoid the area to allow emergency services unhindered access to the crash site.
