The Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orbán, stated that Hungary will continue to import oil and gas from Russia despite the demands of US President Donald Trump.
Orbán emphasized that Hungary acts in accordance with its own interests in energy matters, regardless of pressure from the European Union and the United States administration.
“Hungary is a continental country. As President Donald Trump rightly pointed out: we cannot be blamed for not having seaports or alternative pipelines, and we appreciate his recognition of that reality. If you cut us off from Russian oil and gas, our economy would fall by four percent, families would suffer, and energy bills would skyrocket. We will not comply with demands from Brussels—our energy security and our families must come first,” Orbán said.
As reported by the AP, Hungary is one of the few European countries that still buys Russian oil and gas since the start of the war in Ukraine in February 2022.
