Chicago has been chosen as the “Best Big City” for the ninth consecutive year, according to the readers’ poll of the travel magazine Condé Nast Traveler.

More than 750,000 votes were submitted for this year’s Readers’ Choice Awards, and the magazine noted that such a nine-year winning streak is unprecedented.

“While critics try to portray Chicago as something to be feared, the rest of the world knows the truth — this is the best big city in America,” said Governor Pritzker.

“Chicago is a city of strength, resilience, and heart, driven by people who welcome visitors from all over the world with incomparable warmth and pride. For the ninth year in a row, the most discerning travelers have recognized what we already know: nobody does it like Chicago. No narrative can change that fact, because the spirit of this city is simply unstoppable.”

The organization Choose Chicago announced that local hotels had their best summer season ever, both in room demand and revenue. During June, July, and August, more than 3.56 million overnight stays were recorded, a 4.3% increase compared to 2024, surpassing the previous record set in 2019.

San Francisco was named the second-best big city, followed closely by Milwaukee. The title of the best small city, according to readers, went to Charleston, South Carolina.
