While many people show humanity through words, Milan Mićunović from Novi Sad decided to show it through actions. This junior supervisor at the District Prison in Novi Sad successfully completed a humanitarian cycling journey of as many as 1,000 kilometers, with the goal of drawing public attention to the needs of children battling heart defects.
After seven days on a bicycle and a thousand kilometers traveled through numerous cities across Serbia, Mićunović symbolically completed his mission in front of the University Children’s Clinic in Tiršova in Belgrade, the institution where the most complex surgeries on children with congenital heart defects are performed.
He set off on June 1 from his workplace in Novi Sad, accompanied by colleagues and family members. The idea for this campaign was born after he learned that his colleague has a daughter who is fighting a heart defect.

As stated by the Director of the Administration for the Execution of Criminal Sanctions, Mile Jandrić, it was precisely that life story that inspired him to launch a broader campaign to raise awareness about the importance of supporting children and their families.
This is not the first time Mićunović has taken part in humanitarian endeavors. Back in 2024, he cycled through three countries to help raise money for the treatment of Merjem Nikšić, a girl suffering from cerebral palsy.
This time, he also gathered some of the biggest names in cycling in the region. Professional cyclists, multiple champions, and Olympic participants Veljko Stojnić, Aleksandar Roman, and Ivan Stević joined him in the humanitarian caravan.
During the seven-day journey, the caravan passed through Novi Sad, Zrenjanin, Kikinda, Subotica, Sombor, Bačka Palanka, Sremska Mitrovica, Šabac, Valjevo, Čačak, Kraljevo, Kruševac, Sokobanja, Zaječar, Negotin, Donji Milanovac, and Smederevo before arriving in Belgrade.
Milan’s feat once again showed that humanity knows no boundaries and that one person, with enough determination and a big heart, can inspire many others and draw attention to those who need help the most.
