On the orders of the Special Department for the Suppression of Corruption of the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Novi Sad, 25 people, mostly border police officers and customs officials, have been arrested on suspicion of participating in corrupt activities at the Badovinci border crossing.
According to a statement from the prosecutor’s office, the investigation includes a total of 29 suspects, of whom 23 are police officers and four are customs officials. Two individuals are still being actively sought.
The suspects are charged with accepting bribes, giving bribes, and abuse of official position. The investigation established that between December 30, 2024, and May 28, 2025, at the Badovinci border crossing, certain officials allegedly accepted gifts in order not to perform official duties they were obligated to carry out.
The prosecutor’s office also suspects that certain police officers and customs officials enabled individuals who did not meet the legal requirements to cross the state border and transport goods, without conducting the prescribed border and customs controls.
The arrested individuals have been detained for up to 48 hours, after which they will be questioned by the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Novi Sad.
The operation involved 11 public prosecutors, five prosecutorial assistants, and a large number of members of the Internal Control Sector of the Serbian Ministry of the Interior. No further information is currently available.
