In the first set, Novak gave way near the end of the set, and Perricard reached a surprising lead in sets.
A great battle was seen in the second one as well, but Novak managed to make a break in the finish of the set and reach 1:1.
The third set was Novak’s total domination, as he won that part of the game with 6:1.

When it seemed that Novak had broken his rival and made another break at the start of the fourth set, Perricard surprisingly struck back and prolonged his resistance. However, Novak made another break later on, and by then everything was already over.
Perricard managed to reduce the score to 5:4 when he served to stay in the match, but then Novak served securely and reached the victory and placement into the second round.
