The last body of a victim of the devastating floods has been found in Donja Jablanica, Sabahudin Spahović from the Federal Civil Protection Administration (FUCZ) confirmed for N1.
As told to N1, the body was found in Grabovičko Lake during cleanup operations and is that of a woman.
“The body was found near the Grabovička dam. Elektroprivreda workers who were cleaning up debris found the body and notified us and the police. We immediately went to the scene, determined that it was a human body, and identified it, and then the police officers did their job. This is all very difficult, but at the same time, we are glad that the last victim has been found, and a collective funeral will be held for her tomorrow,” said Spahović.
PRATITE NAS I NA FEJSBUKU:
With the discovery of the last victim in Jablanica, the number of victims in the devastating floods in this area is 19, and four in Konjic.
In Konjic, they are still searching for one missing person.
When we talk about the victims of the floods, that number is 26 (Jablanica 19, Konjic four, and Fojnica three people). Floods also hit Kreševo and Kiseljak, but fortunately, there were no casualties in those places.
Forensic expert from Trebinje, Dražen Damjanuk, together with his colleague from Foča, Boris Pejić, performed autopsies on the victims of the catastrophic floods in Donja Jablanica and Buturović Polje near Konjic.
Then Damjanuk said that a classic drowning was not established in any of the victims.
“None of the victims had classic drowning from water. Both my colleague Pejić and I expected that to be the cause. We knew there would be mechanical injuries (fractures, blows), but in these victims, death occurred from suffocation by mud and earth, not water. Because no one drowned in a lake or river, but from suffocation by all that mud that flowed down that avalanche that went towards Buturović Polje and Jablanica. There were mechanical injuries in several bodies due to the collapse of walls, ceilings, and rocks, these are extremely heavy objects that fell on them,” explained Dr. Damjanuk.
Although they have had many difficult cases in their work so far, these were particularly emotional for them, especially considering the stories of all the victims.
“It’s terribly shocking, entire families died. I performed an autopsy on a married couple who were found hugging, and my colleague Pejić on a pregnant woman who was far along in her pregnancy,” says Damjanuk.
As he says, he was on the ground where he could only witness the cataclysm.
“It’s a big cataclysm in Donja Jablanica, like the one after the earthquake in Turkey. A deathly silence on the ground, a catastrophe. It cannot be described in words or shown in a picture, a real cataclysm,” said Damjanuk.
Damjanuk was on his way to Visoko to perform an autopsy on another victim while we were talking.
“Now I’m going to Visoko to perform an autopsy on the twelfth victim, a woman who was found today in the Jablanica area. So we performed autopsies on victims from the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton,” concluded Damjanuk.
