Slovenian police have arrested a 39-year-old citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina suspected of fatally stabbing his 36-year-old partner in Vuhred. He was found shortly before midnight near the scene of the killing and did not resist arrest.

Slovenian news outlet Žurnal24, citing unofficial but, it says, verified information, reported that the suspect is Amir Uzunović, according to Index.hr.

Police have not officially released his name. The Celje Police Directorate said that, following the completion of the criminal investigation, he will be brought before an investigating judge along with a criminal complaint on suspicion of committing murder.

The police also thanked members of the public for the information they provided during the manhunt.

The killing occurred on Monday night in a residential building in the center of Vuhred, a settlement in northern Slovenia in the municipality of Radlje ob Dravi.

According to police, the 39-year-old stabbed his partner so severely that she died at the scene.

He fled the scene on foot after the attack.

Police were notified of the incident by a physician from the Radlje ob Dravi Health Center.

The large-scale search involved around 30 police officers and criminal investigators, as well as K-9 handlers, mounted police, drones, and a police helicopter.

The motive for the killing has not yet been established. Police said they had never previously intervened in connection with the family and that the suspect had no criminal record or previous investigations related to criminal offenses.

He had previously been recorded only for a traffic violation.

Police also said they had information indicating that the man had recently been in a very unstable mental state.

Residents interviewed by the Slovenian news outlet 24ur described him as a polite, hardworking, and non-confrontational man who had never caused problems in the community. They said they did not know the family well and were shocked by the killing.
