Borko Drašković, the director of the Republic Geodetic Authority (RGZ), was dismissed today at a session of the Serbian Government, Nova.rs reports.
Drašković had served as the director of the RGZ for 11 years.
“Everyone is calling as if it’s something extraordinary,” Drašković said in his first reaction.
Asked whether he knew why he had been dismissed after 11 years, he replied that “there comes a day when, after 11 years, you should be replaced.”
Asked whether the dismissal was connected to his dispute with Milan Stamatović, the President of the Municipality of Čajetina, Drašković said that he “does his job and has done his job.”
“Whether it has anything to do with that or not, whatever the assessments may be… What matters to us is that we do our job,” he added.
The now former RGZ director said he believes he will return to the private sector, from which he originally came.
In recent months, he had drawn attention because of the public dispute between the institution and Milan Stamatović, President of the Municipality of Čajetina, over land issues on Zlatibor. The conflict escalated to the point where it was conducted through the official RGZ account on the social media platform X. It is not known whether Drašković’s dismissal is connected to that dispute.
The former RGZ director was also involved in a public dispute with former Minister of Construction Goran Vesić, who openly threatened to “deal with the cadastre.” Vesić criticized the work of the RGZ, claiming that it did everything possible to avoid direct contact with citizens and communicated with them only online and through lawyers.
That was followed by a response from the leadership of the institution through the Geosindikat trade union, which criticized the minister’s performance in return.
Despite that conflict with a high-ranking state official and member of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), Drašković remained in office.
Following the change of government in 2013, he served as Assistant Director of the Directorate for Inland Waterways within the Ministry of Transport.
According to the latest data published on the website of the Anti-Corruption Agency, Drašković received a monthly salary of 315,000 dinars as director of the RGZ. His asset declaration states that he owns a 130-square-meter three-bedroom house, a 72-square-meter auxiliary building, a vineyard, and commercial premises measuring 36 square meters. He also owns two apartments measuring 98 and 51 square meters, as well as two garage spaces. He drives a 2002 Fiat Punto and has savings in a bank account.
