Early this morning, near Vicenza, in the Kogolo del Cendro area, the search for the body of Ana Marija Knežević, a 40-year-old millionaire who disappeared in Spain on February 2nd of this year, resumed.
Ana Knežević has been missing since February, when she vanished without a trace in Madrid. She had moved to the Spanish capital from Florida, USA, after a difficult divorce from her partner, David Knežević. It is he who is considered the prime suspect in her disappearance and murder.
Search for the body is conducted in the forest near Vicenza
According to Italian media, there is a suspicion that she may have been murdered by her ex-husband and buried in the Vicenza forests. The Vicenza police, in cooperation with Spanish and American authorities, have been searching the former Costo road since the early morning hours, which a car’s GPS device marked as the location where David Knežević had a long stop.
Landslides open new possibilities for investigation
The investigation has led to the blocking of the road by the municipal authorities of Vicenza. More detailed investigations will be carried out in areas that have been affected by landslides in recent months, making certain points easier to access than before. It is suspected that Knežević may have had an accomplice in Kogolo del Cendjo who helped him hide his ex-wife’s body in this area. The last searches were carried out in August and ended without results after several days.

David Knežević on trial in the US
Belgrade resident David Knežević has been charged in a US court with the murder of his wife Ana Knežević, whose body has not been found to this day. After the indictment against the suspected Serb was expanded, the family of the missing Ana spoke out. Her loved ones are demanding answers to key questions. The proceedings against Knežević have been initiated in a court in South Florida and are being conducted by Judge Edward Torres. He has been presented with numerous pieces of evidence collected by the prosecution, including video surveillance footage that located David Knežević in Spain at the time of his wife Ana’s disappearance, although he claimed to be in Belgrade at the time. The search for Ana or her body has been ongoing for eight months, involving the authorities of Serbia, Spain, and the United States. American media reported that David Knežević has been charged with murder and could face the death penalty for this crime.
Family seeks punishment and conviction
The Henao family has also spoken out on this occasion, saying that this indictment confirms the suspicions they had regarding Ana’s disappearance.
– This is a path that leads our family into immeasurable sorrow, but we will continue to seek answers to key questions. At this moment, we must pay tribute to Ana and cherish her memory, advocating for her story to be told to the end and for those responsible to be punished – said Ana’s brother Diego Henao.
Million-dollar divorce
Ana and David were in the midst of a contentious divorce and a battle over millions of dollars in real estate, prosecutors say. They were married for 13 years, and the defense claims that the divorce was amicable and that the financial arrangements were in the process of being settled. Jane Weintraub, Knežević’s lead attorney, stated that she plans for him to plead not guilty at the upcoming hearing.
– This is a desperate attempt by the government to charge him with everything possible and see what sticks – Jane said, as reported by AP.
