U.S. President Donald Trump said he had a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin about ending the war in Ukraine, The New York Post reported.
Trump told the newspaper that Putin wants to stop the suffering of people in the war in Ukraine.
He also emphasized that he has “always had a good relationship with Putin” and that he has a concrete plan to end the war, though he did not reveal further details.

In an interview given on Friday aboard Air Force One, Trump said it was “better not to say” when reporters asked how many times he had spoken with Putin, Reuters reported.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated at the end of January that Putin was ready for a phone conversation with Trump and that Moscow was waiting for word from Washington indicating Trump’s readiness as well.
On Friday, Trump also said that he would likely meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky next week to discuss ending the war in Ukraine.
