The ruling coalition of the Serbian Progressive Party in Zaječar did not give up on organizing the second session of the City Assembly, even though the court made a decision to annul the constitutive session. The session is in progress, and private security is preventing the opposition from accessing the speaker’s stand.
The second session has begun. Members of the Serbian Progressive Party who were assigned mandates before the court declared the constitutive session unconstitutional, entered the hall, and the opposition is also present.
The chairman tried to, after a break, continue with the session when the opposition reacted, so there was pushing between the private security and the opposition councilor Đuričković.
The opposition called on private security to leave the hall.
The opposition did not want to take their seats, and councilor Uglješa Đuričković said that legal violence was being carried out, that the session was being conducted contrary to the law and that the court’s verdict, which declared the SNS mandates illegitimate, must be respected.
Private security, as reported by Nova’s reporter, without ID formed a cordon around the speaker’s stand, and there was also a discussion between opposition councilors and private security.
Representatives of the authorities do not want to answer N1’s questions about their intentions at the session.
As the reporter reports, the chairman Miodrag Jovanović confirmed in an earlier conversation that he will be in the role of a member of the verification commission. When asked by Nova how this is possible given that the Commission’s deadline for forming the city parliament has expired, he said “that’s what I was told”.
A police cordon is in front of the City Assembly building, and private security is also inside.
The opposition announced a rally and called on citizens to join.
Let’s recall, the Higher Court in Zaječar passed a verdict declaring the constitutive session of the Zaječar City Assembly held on August 6 illegitimate.
The verdict of the Higher Court in Zaječar was passed on the appeal of the coalition “Change we believe in – Uglješa Đuričković – Dragana Rašić” against the decision of the Zaječar City Assembly on the confirmation of the mandates of the councilors of this local Assembly from August 6, 2025, the decision states.
