President of the United States of America (USA) Donald Trump paid tribute today to conservative activist Charlie Kirk at a commemoration for his murder on September 10.
The commemoration at State Farm Stadium is attended by tens of thousands of people, and speeches are expected from Trump and prominent members of his administration and the “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) movement, such as Vice President JD Vance, Minister of Defense, recently of War, Pete Hegseth, Minister of Health Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and others.
“Today we will celebrate the life of a great man,” Trump told reporters as he was leaving the White House to go to the commemoration and added that “today will be a difficult day.”
The stadium with over 60,000 seats was almost full around 9:30 a.m. local time, and it is estimated that more than 200,000 grieving Americans could attend Kirk’s funeral, a spokesman for the Glendale city police said, as reported by CNN.
Kirk was shot while speaking at a forum at the University of Utah on September 10, after which he passed away at a hospital.
His murder in the USA launched a fierce debate about violence and freedom of speech, and Trump blamed the “radical left” for Kirk’s death and threatened to implement certain measures against liberal organizations and donors or others whom he considers to be slandering or celebrating the death of the 31-year-old activist and founder of the “Turning point USA” organization.
Trump criticized members of the Democratic Party in the House of Representatives who voted against a resolution praising Kirk’s life, work, and legacy.
More than a dozen journalists and educators lost their jobs after Kirk’s murder due to alleged offensive or comments celebrating his death, including host Jimmy Kimmel, whose show was canceled from ABC television indefinitely.
The State Department has warned that it will revoke the visas of all foreigners who celebrated Kirk’s murder.
The 22-year-old Tyler Robinson has been suspected of Kirk’s murder, and if convicted, he could face the death penalty for it.
Authorities have not revealed a clear motive for the shooting, but prosecutors say that Robinson wrote in a message he left after the shooting that he was “fed up with Kirk’s hatred.”
The gathering will also be addressed by Erika Kirk, the widow of the murdered activist, who was named the new leader of his organization and promised then that “his movement will not die.”
