Good news travels fast. Words of support for students in their fight for justice for those who died in the terrible accident in Novi Sad have crossed our country’s borders.
Novak Djokovic “appeared” on the front page of the Madrid-based “Marca”, which dedicated a lengthy text to his public appearance in which he emphasized the importance of hearing the voices of young people.
“For weeks, university students have been blockading faculties across the country as part of protests demanding political and legal responsibility for the deaths of 15 people on November 1, when a canopy collapsed at the newly renovated railway station,” the editorial board of the popular sports newspaper offered context for Djokovic’s message to readers who may not have been aware of the situation in Serbia.
“Students are demanding that the government publish the project documentation carried out by a Chinese company, which the opposition claims was done with numerous irregularities,” the text states.

It adds: “Despite the fact that the government, at the request of President Aleksandar Vučić, published the documentation on its website, students doubt the authenticity of the document and demand the complete version.”
“Populist and nationalist Vučić called on students and professors who support them to end the protest, insisting that their demands have been met,” writes “Marca”.
“Every day at 11:52, at the time the accident in Novi Sad happened, citizens in groups take to the streets to pay tribute to the victims.”
The headline of the article reads: “Djokovic showed his humane side and called for the voices of students in Serbia to be heard.”
It is clear that they were heard.
