A few days ago, a fire broke out in the building of the Serbian National Defense (SNO) in Chicago. Neighbors from the surrounding houses confirmed that the flames were at one point so intense that they barely managed to get outside and leave for work.
On this occasion, Hadži-Miloš Marinković, a former vice president of the SNO, contacted the Serbian Times editorial office. In his open letter, he said:
“Following the sad news that a fire broke out at the premises of the Serbian National Defense in America and caused extensive material damage, as a former SNO vice president, I feel a moral obligation to draw attention to several widely known facts concerning the condition of and dangers facing what was once a renowned organization and one of the three oldest Serbian organizations in America,” Marinković said, continuing:
“Several people who currently make up the SNO leadership, including its current president Predrag Bursać, have for years publicly advocated selling the SNO’s property and relocating the organization itself to the premises of another organization, namely Serbian Fraternal Aid. Without wishing to insinuate that anyone deliberately caused the fire, I would nevertheless like to point out that this tragic event could serve as an opportunity for precisely such a thing to happen, and for the SNO to suffer the same fate as Srpska Kuća, which was sold and dismantled ten years ago.”
WARNING: Marinković says the SNO could suffer the same fate as Srpska Kuća
He further adds that negligence may have been the cause of the fire…

“Apparently, no one had been looking after the building since former SNO president Archpriest Saša Petrović expelled Radislav Rade Raković from the organization at the beginning of this year. Raković had conscientiously looked after the SNO building for many years, often at his own expense. Rade Raković, a decorated SNO member and respected, distinguished Serb, died on Markovdan, May 8 this year, having been expelled from the organization. He was treated that way because, together with me and the overwhelming majority of former active SNO members, he conscientiously supported the students in Serbia, while Saša Petrović forcefully insisted on overturning the support already given to the students and backing what entered the recent elections in Serbia under the name ‘Authentic Right’ and received 0.9% of the vote. At the polling station in Chicago itself, the aforementioned list received not a single vote. Freedom-loving people rightly recognized it as a fake opposition movement and fake monarchists,” emphasized Hadži-Miloš Marinković.

ELECTIONS AND FIRES: The SNO premises in Chicago have been the scene of turbulent events recently
“The recent public endorsement of that list, together with the scandalously conducted SNO congress on Vidovdan this year, has seriously damaged the organization’s reputation, which has now suffered another blow from this tragic and destructive event. Whatever the current leadership may be like, and whatever we may know or think about it, the Serbian National Defense must survive as a patriotic and monarchist organization. In the future, better generations of Serbs who are yet to come should be able to restore it to what it once was and what it ought to be. To that end, its premises must be preserved, because the material damage, although considerable, is not irreparable,” Marinković concluded.
We remind readers that Chicago fire officials announced that no one was injured in the fire at the SNO building and that, together with the police, they are continuing to investigate its cause.
