The New Police Trade Union Alliance has filed a criminal complaint with the Supreme Public Prosecutor’s Office against Aleksandar Vučić. It is demanding his arrest, the initiation of criminal proceedings, and an order for his detention.

The reason is Vučić’s statements following the parliamentary elections on October 25. According to the union, he called the student movement “terrorists” and said he would organize someone to take justice into their own hands and put a stop to the alleged terror.

The union believes these statements provide grounds for suspicion of an attack on the constitutional order, incitement to the violent overthrow of the constitutional order, and causing panic and disorder. It justifies its request for detention by citing the danger that Vučić could influence witnesses and continue the actions for which the complaint was filed.

The union is demanding that the prosecutor’s office act urgently and apply the same standards that were used in the cases of Novica Antić, Ivan Matović, Zdravko Rajević, Katarina Petrović, and Nataša Pričić, who, it says, were arrested and deprived of their liberty over incomparably less serious accusations.

The prosecutor’s office must examine the allegations in the complaint and decide whether the conditions for criminal prosecution have been met. Detention is decided by a court, at the prosecutor’s request. For now, it has been announced that the union has requested these measures.
