Students in the blockade at the Novi Sad Faculty of Law today, regarding the visit of Albanian President Bajram Begaj to southern Serbia, asked why pro-government media did not report on it and whether the ground was being prepared for Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić to “sell another part of the Serbian state”.
Begaj visited Serbia on Wednesday, the students stated, adding that the news of a foreign official coming for a visit should not in itself cause controversy, but that the information was not reported by pro-government media.
“Begaj did not come on an official visit to Belgrade, but, accompanied by Serbian police and security forces equipped with long-barreled weapons, he came to Bujanovac and Preševo, where he was welcomed by representatives of the local authorities there with Albanian flags,” the students said.
They stated that while Serbs in Kosovo are being arrested because of Serbian symbols and songs, Begaj, under the veil of a media blackout, is coming to southern Serbia as if he is passing through his own country.
“After that, we get a statement from the mayor of Preševo that Preševo and the Preševo Valley are an inseparable part of the Albanian world,” the students added, assessing that the authorities are once again showing that they are treacherous, and that Vučić’s “nickname given to him by the citizens of Serbia suits him perfectly”.
“The authorities have been surviving for years on the basis of false patriotism and present themselves as protectors of national interests, while through their actions they show that they are anything but patriotic,” the students said.
