Serbia has officially gained a new representative in the world’s strongest basketball league.
The Milwaukee Bucks have signed talented Serbian basketball player Bogoljub Marković to an official four-year rookie contract after selecting him in the second round of the NBA Draft.
According to American media reports, the deal is worth a total of $9.3 million over four years and includes a team option for the final season, giving the Bucks the right to extend the partnership if the Serbian prospect lives up to expectations.
Milwaukee selected Marković with the 47th overall pick in the draft, after which the young power forward-center spent another year developing in Europe. The decision proved to be the perfect move. Playing for Mega in regional competition, he exploded onto the scene and posted outstanding numbers, averaging 18.9 points, 8.9 rebounds, 2.6 assists, as well as one steal and one block per game.

Those performances earned him the ABA League MVP award, a second consecutive Top Prospect honor, and a place in the league’s Best Five team.
Although his first Summer League appearance last year was somewhat modest as he adjusted to the American style of play, U.S. journalists and insiders have urged patience while highlighting the Serbian’s enormous potential. The well-known outlet Yahoo quoted experts who believe Marković has all the tools to become a major NBA player.
“This signing should not come as any surprise. Basketball analysts urged everyone not to give up on Marković after his somewhat underwhelming Summer League performances. His confidence, high basketball IQ, excellent shooting ability, and outstanding mobility for a player of his size are among his greatest strengths. Many have already compared his style of play to Utah star Lauri Markkanen. If he reaches that level, it will be a tremendous outcome for Milwaukee.”
The Serbian forward, who will soon celebrate his 21st birthday, fits perfectly into the Bucks’ new philosophy of acquiring mentally strong, hungry, and adaptable young players. Marković will have ideal conditions for development in Wisconsin, working under head coach Taylor Jenkins and alongside experienced coaches such as Joe Boylan and former NBA star T.J. Ford.
“There is no doubt that Marković adds significant quality to Milwaukee’s collection of young talents. He will increase competition and provide another option at the power forward position, where the Bucks already rely on Kyle Kuzma and Pete Nance. Let’s hope his MVP form from the Adriatic courts is only a preview of what he can bring to the NBA,” American media concluded.
