Prince Hereditary Filip Karadjordjević is attending today, together with his wife Princess Danica, the central festivities marking the 80th birthday of His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf, which are being held at the Royal Palace in Stockholm, in the presence of numerous members of European and world royal families.
The ceremonial program began with the arrival of guests at the Royal Palace, after which a traditional Te Deum was served in the Royal Chapel. It was during this ceremony that Prince Filip and Princess Danica had a notable place right next to the Swedish royal family, which further testifies to the close relations between the two dynasties. A special personal dimension is given to this event by a close family connection – Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Victoria, daughter of the Swedish King, is the wedding godmother of Prince Hereditary Filip and Princess Danica. This godparent relationship contributed to the visible placement of the Serbian couple during the central ceremonies, as well as the cordial atmosphere that followed their participation.
The marking of the jubilee continued with a ceremonial change of the guard in the palace’s outer courtyard, as well as a special musical program – a choral homage in honor of the Swedish King, in which choirs from all over Sweden participated.
The Serbian royal family was also represented by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Alexander and Princess Katherine, further emphasizing the significance of this event for interstate and family relations.
“Our family’s participation in this celebration has a deeper meaning – it serves as a reminder of the strong historical, family, and cultural ties that connect Serbia and Sweden, as well as our responsibility to preserve and further develop those ties,” said Prince Hereditary Filip.
The official program continued with a formal lunch hosted by the Stockholm City Council at the City Hall, one of the most significant symbols of the Swedish capital. In the evening, a gala dinner will be held in the State Hall of the Royal Palace, representing the crown of this jubilee celebration.
The public’s attention will also be drawn to the first appearance of the Serbian princely couple in a formal, “royal” edition – with family decorations, representing a significant symbol of the continuity of tradition and the dignity of the Karadjordjević dynasty.
The celebration gathered numerous representatives of royal families from Europe and the world, including members of the royal houses of Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, Luxembourg, Liechtenstein, Thailand, Romania, and Greece, giving the event a distinctly international character.
This jubilee, in addition to its ceremonial character, represents an opportunity for strengthening diplomatic and personal relations among European monarchies, with an emphasized role of tradition and family ties that connect royal houses across the world.
