The Croatian national handball team won the bronze medal at the European Handball Championship, and a great deal of controversy was caused by a concert by Marko Perković Thompson.
Namely, an unprecedented scandal occurred in Croatia, where the city of Zagreb banned the welcome ceremony for Croatia’s bronze-winning handball players from the European Championship because they did not want to allow the pro-Ustasha singer Marko Perković Thompson, who was the wish of the Croatian national team members. However, an unprecedented scandal followed, as the Government of Croatia decided that it would organize the welcome itself.
After the handball players appeared, Marko Perković Thompson came out in front of the fans, crossed himself, and stepped onto the stage. Hundreds of flares were lit.
This was followed by the start of the concert and the song: “Ako ne znaš što je bilo…”
As a reminder, the welcome caused a great stir because, in front of thousands of fans, in addition to the athletes, the controversial musician Marko Perković Thompson also appeared.
Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković today rejected all claims of unconstitutional and illegal actions by the Government related to taking over the organization of the welcome for the national handball team that won the bronze medal at the European Championship in Denmark.
In an address to journalists in Zagreb, Plenković said that the Government is acting in accordance with its authorities and, as he stated, most importantly – common sense.
