Today marks eight years since the murder of Oliver Ivanović, leader of the Civic Initiative “Serbia, Democracy and Justice.”
On this occasion, a memorial service was held this morning at the Temple of Saint Sava in Belgrade, attended by the President of the National Assembly of Serbia, Ana Brnabić, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić.
First, priests at the Temple held the memorial service, after which members of Ivanović’s immediate family, the President of the National Assembly of Serbia Ana Brnabić, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić paid their respects by lighting candles, thus marking eight years since the murder of Oliver Ivanović in Kosovska Mitrovica.
In addition to Ivanović’s widow Milena Popović, Oliver’s son, relatives, and friends, the memorial was also attended by the Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija Petar Petković and the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality Milan Antonijević.
Oliver Ivanović was killed by six shots to the back in the early morning hours of January 16, 2018, in front of the headquarters of his party in the northern part of Kosovska Mitrovica.
He was buried on January 18 in the Alley of Distinguished Citizens at the New Cemetery in Belgrade.
Brnabić: Pristina Sabotages the Investigation
Brnabić stated that Pristina is sabotaging the investigation into the murder of Ivanović and that this is why, even eight years after the killing, there is no information about who organized, ordered, and carried out the murder.
“Eight years have passed since the brutal murder of Oliver Ivanović, eight years without justice, eight years without information about who organized, ordered, and carried out this murder, eight years in which Pristina has been sabotaging the pursuit of justice or any serious and meaningful investigation,” Brnabić said after the memorial.
She stated that justice may be slow, but it is always attainable.
“We will continue, as we say every year, to insist on justice. Justice is attainable, sometimes it is extremely slow, but it is always attainable. We will continue to insist that those who ordered, organized, and carried out the murder of Oliver Ivanović be found,” Brnabić emphasized.
She added that the fact that Pristina is sabotaging the investigation shows that the killer is not of Serbian origin.
“The very fact that Pristina is the one sabotaging the investigation and not sharing any information speaks to the fact that the killer is not of Serbian origin, because we all know what Pristina stands for and what their values are, and if they had any suspicion that anyone of Serbian origin was behind the murder of Oliver Ivanović, those people would have long since been charged and they would have presented evidence. Therefore, Pristina is hiding someone else, but the truth will certainly come to light. We will continue to insist on justice,” Brnabić emphasized.
