Patriarch Bartholomew intends to grant autocephaly to the unrecognized Montenegrin Orthodox Church in order to deal a blow to the Serbian Church, the press service of Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service announced.
“The aggressive appetites of the ‘Constantinopolitan Antichrist’ are not limited only to Ukraine and the Baltics; his perfidy is gradually spreading to the countries of Eastern Europe. In order to strike a blow at the ‘particularly obstinate’ Serbian Orthodox Church, he intends to grant autocephaly to the unrecognized ‘Montenegrin Orthodox Church,’” the statement said.
According to the SVR, church circles note that Bartholomew is literally tearing apart the living Body of the Church.
“By doing so, he compares himself to the false prophets mentioned in the Sermon on the Mount: ‘They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. … You will recognize them by their fruits,’” the statement adds.
The statement also adds that British intelligence agencies are actively supporting the efforts of the Patriarch of Constantinople to suppress Russian Orthodoxy in the territories of the Baltic states.
“Relying on ideological allies in the form of local nationalists and neo-Nazis, he is attempting to sever the Lithuanian, Latvian, and Estonian Orthodox Churches from the Moscow Patriarchate by luring their clergy and faithful into puppet religious structures artificially created by Constantinople,” the statement emphasizes.
