The situation at Partizan appears to be escalating, and according to Nova.rs, Željko Obradović has explicitly criticized club president Ostoja Mijailović for three things – and we reveal all the details.
The legendary coach has not yet decided whether he will remain Partizan’s head coach or if his resignation will stand. As Nova.rs previously reported, Obradović asked Ostoja Mijailović to resign from his position as club president.
This was just part of a meeting between Obradović and the Partizan management held on Friday, where a final decision regarding the future of the nine-time EuroLeague champion at the club was expected. However, the decision was postponed at least until Saturday, when a new meeting is scheduled.
The discussions were tense and difficult, with the famous coach feeling that in recent months, especially since last summer, he had not felt the support from the club that he expected. As Nova.rs revealed, due to all the events at the club, Obradović asked Ostoja Mijailović to resign, believing it would be best for him.
But that is not all… Nova.rs reports that Obradović has specifically criticized Mijailović for three things he could not and would not overlook.
The first – Mijailović altered part of Obradović’s farewell letter by adding that the resignation was irrevocable, and he then publicly acknowledged and thanked Obradović via social media for accepting the resignation.
The second – last summer, Dilan Osetkovski was brought from Unicaja without the knowledge of Zoran Savić, the club’s sporting director until recently, or Željko Obradović himself, with agent Miodrag Ražnatović acting as intermediary.
The third – tickets that the legendary coach purchased for courtside seats were handed over to the same agent, Miodrag Ražnatović.
In addition, during the heated meeting, Obradović expressed his opinions about the players, noting that some no longer listen to him. He specifically criticized the behavior of players such as Sterling Brown, Tyrik Jones, and Vanja Marinković.
It seems that even one of these issues alone would be enough to create irreparable tension between the coach and the club’s top official.
Following all of this, Obradović offered his resignation on Wednesday, but the club, after Mijailović publicly accepted it and thanked him on social media, announced opposition to the resignation. Since then, efforts have been made to convince the legendary coach to reconsider and remain at the helm of the club. The Friday meeting ended without a conclusion, and a new one was scheduled for Saturday.
They will attempt to discuss his potential reconsideration again. Obradović is also deeply disappointed that at the start of the season adequate funds were not provided to secure players who were his first choices and targets of multiple other clubs, while now the narrative from the same people is that he has free rein and can do everything.
Željko Obradović’s resignation as Partizan head coach remains in effect, although a final decision has not yet been made.
