Olga Danilović, currently the best Serbian tennis player, has graduated from the Management in Sport study program at the Faculty of Sport, “Union – Nikola Tesla” University.
She successfully defended her final paper on the topic “Organization of Sports Events based on the Example of a WTA Tournament” with the highest possible grade.
The committee consisted of Prof. Dr. Svetlana Petronijević, who was the president, Prof. Dr. Sanja Krsmanović Veličković, mentor, and Prof. Dr. Zoran Mašić as a member.
During her presentation, Olga showed that she is not only proficient on the tennis court but also in the field of management. With a fluid presentation, she introduced everyone present to how one of the best sports associations representing the interests of women – the WTA tour – functions.
“I am very satisfied with how I defended my final paper. As I said in the presentation, tennis teaches you that certain discipline, and I came here prepared for it to look perfect, just the way I imagined it,” Olga Danilović pointed out.
Although she has already gained a lot of experience in her tennis career, she was nervous before the graduation.
“There was a lot of nervousness. I was joking with my mentor: ‘You can put me here in front of the whole amphitheater to run as much as necessary, but when I have to do something like this, I get really nervous.’ However, just like on the court, when I started talking, it completely disappeared. This is my world, I knew exactly what my point would be, and to my great happiness, everything turned out very successfully,” added the 68th tennis player in the world.
After the defense, Olga did not hide her huge satisfaction with everything she went through at the faculty in the past period.
“It was wonderful. All the professors met me halfway, even when I was in China, in America. They pushed me and encouraged me to study and work, they helped me transfer what I live through tennis to the faculty as well. We did a wonderful job, and this is a joint victory. I am very happy that I chose the Faculty of Sport.”
She emphasizes that the education of top athletes is very important for life after a sports career.
“I think everything can be harmonized. It is not always easy, far from it. This was definitely a goal of mine to finish. Tennis is my life currently, but after that, I can say that everyday life continues. I won’t stop here; I will continue my education. We are all aware that athletes, when they finish their careers, often say they don’t know what to do next, and this is definitely a great relief for me now.”
Danilović already has some idea of what she might do after the end of her career.
“I definitely won’t be a coach because I am too emotional and I would get attached to someone. I see myself more in that kind of organization, acting from a different plan.”
The season on the WTA tour has ended, and Olga is now preparing for new challenges.
“It can always be better. I had wonderful moments this year, some big wins. I am satisfied, but I believe that the next season will start at least as well as this one.”
The Serbian tennis player will now have a short break to rest from tennis.
“After this, I’m going to celebrate the defense of my final paper and the completion of my basic studies, and then I’ll slowly start preparing for the next season,” concluded Olga Danilović.
