Student Inas Hodžić said at the welcome reception organized in Belgrade for him and his colleagues who walked for 13 days from Novi Pazar that he thinks this welcome is the most painful for the authorities. “In 13 days all prejudices were torn down, all stereotypes, all the seeds of hatred that had sprouted – those plants have been cut down and there is no more hatred! We are all united and in agreement,” he stated.
He also emphasized that all his colleagues were left speechless.
“We could not have expected this. Never a bigger welcome and never fewer words. Thank you very much, people, you do not know what you have done for us,” he said, while the crowd responded with shouts of “Novi Pazar” and applause.
“We all know why we are here, what our role is in this fight. This whole fight is a need for justice and pain because of the injustice we suffer. That led us on this journey of about 400 kilometers. Many did not believe that we would manage to endure. We haven’t endured 400 yet, but ‘only’ 300. A multitude of kilometers, places, tears, and hugs are behind us. I am completely sure that something like this will not be repeated. We were led by the desire for justice, but out of all this, love, harmony, and unity were born,” he said.
He said that they started with nothing, and although it seemed to them that they were alone, they now see that the whole of Serbia is with them.
He announced that they will continue their journey tomorrow, from the Fifth Gymnasium, and called on everyone to gather in front of that school tomorrow at 11.
“I think this welcome is the most painful for the authorities. In 13 days all prejudices were torn down, all stereotypes, all the seeds of hatred that had sprouted – those plants have been cut down and there is no more hatred! We are all united and in agreement,” he said.
“Thank you for being with us”
“Thank you for being with us every step of the way, for supporting us, loving us, and for sending us messages of support and not giving up on us and for believing that we will make something for a better tomorrow,” said DUNP student Medina Mujezinović to the assembled crowd.
DUNP student Emina Spahić said that such welcomes give them huge momentum to reach the end, no matter how difficult it may be.
“DUNP has been in complete blockade for nine months, while we are walking, our colleagues are freezing without heating at our university, and the rector and the entire administration are still sitting in their armchairs and are not taking responsibility after the thugs broke in. Most of the people who are walking now were at the university that day, and we promise that we will not give up until those people from the administration leave the university and until a compulsory administration is brought in,” she stated.
We remind you that the walks towards Novi Sad, led by students, continued across Serbia. A part of the students who are walking in a relay from Novi Pazar arrived in Belgrade tonight.
