Student Nikolina Sinđelić addressed the crowd at the protest “The Index is Stronger Than the Baton.” She stated that “the entire state apparatus is aimed against its own citizens.” “But let them hear and let them know, neither all their batons, nor all their shields and false reports can break what we carry in our chests—freedom, dignity, and dissent,” she said.
In front of the JZO unit headquarters, Nikolina Sinđelić said that they were “struck by commanders of special units, special forces in full gear, with masks on their faces, men without names or honor.”
“Every fist that struck a citizen of Serbia instead of a criminal struck us, every baton that fell on a student instead of a mobster struck us. Tear gas, rubber bullets, and cordons that defend the powerful from their own people struck us. They struck us because they are afraid, because they know they cannot keep a people who stand upright on their knees forever. They struck us and they will continue to strike us because they know it’s over, and we know it too,” she said.
“Today we are doing something great, today we are not standing aside, and today we say—people, enough is enough. I emphasize that this is not my personal case, but a reflection of the system. If they can strike me, they can strike any of us, any of you. But together, no force can break us,” she said.
She added that “Marko Kričak may think he is powerful and that he can break an individual,” but that she tells him—”there is no place in the world where he will be able to hide when all this is over.”
“Regarding the letter the president sent to the President of the European Commission—Aleksandar Vučić has gone so far as to personally complain about the citizens of his own country to Europe,” she said.
“In his letter full of lies, he tried to portray the people as bullies and himself as a victim of the system he leads. He called me out by my full name, calling me a liar and a fake student. He attacked everyone who doesn’t nod their head to him, thinking that’s how he would hide the truth, but the truth is standing right here on these streets,” she said.
She stated that “the fact that he attacks her is not her shame, but his powerlessness.”
