The Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) has suspended Branko Ružić, the party’s vice president and a member of the Executive Board, from all party functions for six months, reports Nova.rs.
According to Nova.rs, Ružić was suspended in accordance with Article 5 of the party statute, which stipulates that a party member whose opinion has been overruled by party bodies cannot publicly promote that opinion as the official stance of the party. Furthermore, members are not allowed to publicly debate the decisions of party bodies.
Branko Ružić, a longtime socialist official and minister in several governments, has recently made multiple “political deviations” from the official positions of the ruling coalition.
He gave an interview to N1 television, despite an informal ban within the ruling coalition prohibiting officials from appearing on that channel. During the interview, Ružić announced that he would join the student-organized protest in Belgrade on Saturday, March 15—which he did.

He later referred to the camp in Pionirski Park, occupied by government supporters, as a “reality show,” and expressed a series of criticisms aimed at Aleksandar Vučić and the way he interrupted Ivica Dačić’s press briefing following the incident involving an injured police officer near RTS.
Ružić also stated that, “if there were enough wisdom, the next prime minister-designate should be someone with autonomy from the person granting the mandate—namely, from President Aleksandar Vučić.”
