The Ministry of Internal Affairs, as they state, “regarding various interpretations of the private telephone conversation that the injured member of the Gendarmerie Lazar Baćić had with the husband of his retired colleague, published a statement by the injured police officer Lazar Baćić. In that statement, this injured police officer claims that he was injured when he had the task of entering the RTS building, as well as that “his conversation about what happened with the husband of his colleague was misused and that his words were taken out of context.”
“Last night, during the engagement with my unit, I had the task of non-violently entering the Radio Television of Serbia building and securing it from the inside, during which my unit was stopped and attacked, and I suffered multiple blows to the body and head,” states Baćić’s statement, which was released by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
“From the force of one blow, which seemed to me to be from a metal object, i.e. a ‘knuckle duster’, I temporarily lost consciousness. I believe that only a thorough investigation will lead to establishing the exact facts,” states this police officer.
He also emphasizes that he is “sorry that the conversation he had with the husband of his retired colleague was misused and that his words were “taken out of context and at a time when he was in a post-operative state and suffering severe pain.”
“I take this opportunity to thank everyone who expressed concern for my health, especially the President of the Republic, the ministers, my superiors and the doctors. I am sorry if I misled anyone with my statement,” said Gendarme Baćić.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić announced that Lazar Baćić was attacked by students, while students released a video showing that Baćić was at the protest as a plainclothes police officer and that he was hit by one of his uniformed Gendarmerie colleagues. The weekly “Radar” tonight published an audio recording of Baćić’s conversation with his former police colleague and “fellow countryman” from Loznica, Slobodan Pajić, in which Baćić himself admits that he was hit by a colleague.
