American President Donald Trump signed his first set of executive orders at the conclusion of his inauguration ceremony at the “Capital One” sports arena in Washington before being taken to the White House to continue signing.

Among the initial actions, he withdrew the U.S. from the Paris Climate Agreement. The United States, the second-largest polluter globally behind China and historically the largest, had left the agreement during Trump’s first term but rejoined under Joe Biden.

Overturning 78 Biden Orders
Trump’s first executive order nullified 78 orders issued by his predecessor Biden, including the removal of Cuba from the list of state sponsors of terrorism, according to American media reports.

Additionally, Trump withdrew the U.S. from the climate agreement, banned the issuance of new federal regulations until his administration takes full control, temporarily halted federal hiring except in the military and national security sectors, and ended remote work for federal employees.

He also directed federal agencies to address the rising cost-of-living crisis, signed an order restoring free speech and banning censorship, ABC News reported.

Speaking to approximately 20,000 supporters, Trump described Biden’s administration as the worst in history and, amidst enthusiastic applause, announced a series of additional executive orders he would sign at the White House.

Lifting Sanctions on Israeli Settlers, Approving Arctic Oil Drilling

Trump declared illegal immigration at the U.S.-Mexico border a national emergency and labeled criminal cartels as terrorist organizations.

He lifted sanctions imposed by the Biden administration on right-wing Israeli settler groups accused of violence against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.

Trump also reversed Biden-era efforts to block Arctic oil drilling, signing an order to permit such activities and drilling along vast coastal areas of the U.S.

Public Reaction

Not all of Trump’s executive orders are popular. For instance, only 20% of Americans support withdrawing from the Paris Climate Agreement, according to an AP poll, including less than 50% of Trump’s Republican base.
