Hamas has said it is “ready” for a ceasefire in Gaza after the truce between Israel and Hezbollah, according to a senior official of the group, AFP reports.
A senior Hamas official stated today that the Palestinian Islamist movement is “ready” for a ceasefire with the Israeli military in the Gaza Strip, following a ceasefire agreement reached between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon.
A member of Hamas’ political bureau told AFP that they welcome the truce in Lebanon as a “victory and a great success for the resistance movement,” adding that Hamas is prepared for a serious agreement on a ceasefire and a prisoner exchange, as reported by BFM television.

The ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah came into effect this morning at 4:00 AM local time, ending nearly 14 months of fighting that began after a Hamas attack on southern Israel last October.
The ceasefire agreement, which was approved by the Israeli National Security Cabinet last night with 10 votes in favor and one against, includes a 60-day transitional period during which the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) will withdraw troops from southern Lebanon, while the Lebanese Army will deploy about 5,000 soldiers south of the Litani River, including 33 posts along the border with Israel, according to the Times of Israel.
Hezbollah will leave southern Lebanon, and its military infrastructure will be dismantled.
The United States has also reportedly delivered an additional document specifying Israel’s rights to respond to any potential violations of the ceasefire.
According to U.S. TV channel sources, the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah was brokered with the mediation of the U.S. and France.
