An American named Tommy from New York visited Serbia for the first time six years ago, never suspecting that this small Balkan country would become his favorite summer destination in the coming years.
As a science teacher, Tommy accepted an invitation from a friend, also an American, in 2018, to come and see Serbia. Without much thought, he decided to go on an adventure, and soon fell in love with our country. Since then, he returns to Belgrade every summer to enjoy its beauty, as well as the hospitality of the Serbs, which he is delighted with.
Tommy was encountered in Belgrade by the well-known American Jibri, who immediately turned on the cameras and filmed his interesting conversation with his compatriot.
When asked by Jibri why he was in Serbia, Tommy replied:
“I started coming here about six years ago, before the pandemic. A friend of mine moved here, invited me to come and see the place. I thought, ‘well, you know what, I’ll go and see what it’s like’. And I thought it would only be once. However, I have to be honest, I fell in love with Serbia. It didn’t take me long.”

“Serbs are the friendliest people”
Explaining to each other that they were both immediately delighted with Serbia, Tommy explained what had won him over the most in Serbia, specifically Belgrade.
“There’s a lot that won me over. I mean, the place is beautiful, the food is great. The people are among the friendliest I’ve met. I’ve traveled around Europe and other parts of South America and the Serbs are the friendliest people I’ve ever met. They’re genuinely friendly. That’s a big reason why I keep coming back. I’ve been coming every year for the past six years for a couple of months”, he said.
“Unfairly underrated” He also touched on the food he tried here.
“What I like is that Serbia combines so many different cuisines. There’s a mix of Greek, Turkish, and Italian cuisine. That surprised me. I think Serbia is unfairly underrated. I can’t describe it in words. I wish Americans would explore Eastern Europe a little more in general. Because when Americans think of Europe, they think of Italy, France, Spain, and Serbia is an hour’s flight from Rome. An hour. A beautiful place and super friendly people. If you love Italy and France, you’d love Serbia too”, he concluded.
