“WE WILL NOT BE ANYONE’S COLONY”: Venezuela’s Supreme Court has decided who will perform the duties of president until further notice!

Venezuela’s Supreme Court ordered Vice President Delcy Rodríguez to assume the role of acting president in the absence of Nicolás Maduro, who was detained last night in New York in an operation by U.S. forces, Reuters reported.

The court ruling states that Delcy Rodríguez will assume the “function of President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, in order to guarantee administrative continuity and the comprehensive defense of the nation.”

Shortly after the U.S. military operation, Delcy Rodríguez called for Maduro’s release, referring to him as the “only president of Venezuela.”

She said that Venezuela “will not be anyone’s colony.”

Delcy Rodríguez has been Maduro’s vice president since 2018 and has overseen a large part of Venezuela’s oil-dependent economy, and she also previously headed the notorious security service.

U.S. President Donald Trump said yesterday at a press conference that Delcy Rodríguez had expressed readiness to cooperate with the United States after Maduro’s removal.

“She is, basically, ready to do what we believe is necessary for Venezuela to become great again,” Trump told reporters about Delcy Rodríguez, who during his first administration (2017–2021) was under sanctions for her role in undermining democracy in Venezuela.

Trump claims that Rodríguez had a lengthy conversation on Saturday with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, to whom—according to Trump’s words—she said: “We will do everything you need.”

“I would say that she is quite beneficial,” Trump assessed. “We cannot afford to let someone else take over Venezuela, someone who does not have the well-being of the Venezuelan people in mind,” he added.
