In Vancouver, on the far west of Canada, a new gathering was held in support of student and general civic protests in Serbia.

According to unofficial reports, around 300 members of the Serbian diaspora living in the city attended the gathering on Saturday.

With slogans such as “Students, thank you for protecting my acacia trees” and “Vancouver is Novi Sad”, the crowd, after a loud demonstration, observed a fifteen-minute silence at 11:52 local time to honor the victims of the collapse of the railway station canopy in Novi Sad.

The gathering was addressed by Irina Đorđić, a former RTS journalist and now an immigrant in Canada and one of the event organizers, as well as Andrej Stanojlović, a former student of Belgrade’s “Laza Kostić” Elementary School and now a political science student at Douglas College in Vancouver.

The organizers emphasized the Serbian community’s commitment to continuing gatherings in the coming weeks in support of their compatriots in Serbia, as long as the students’ demands remain unmet.

Over the weekend, Serbian diaspora representatives held similar support gatherings for students in Serbia in several cities across the United States and Canada.
