While many people slow down in retirement and seek a quieter lifestyle with fewer physical demands, there are also those who view old age in a completely different way. One of them is Radovan Radulović from Montenegro, more precisely from Podgorica, who has entered his eighth decade of life but still runs as much as 10 kilometers every single day.
For him, as he told RTCG, running is not just a habit or a form of recreation, but a way of life that combines physical activity, a love of nature, and a sense of inner peace. He says that his morning run gives him the energy he needs for all the responsibilities that await him throughout the day.
Movement Gives Him Strength and Motivation
Radovan runs 10 kilometers every day to stay in shape and, as he explains, to remain ready for longer races as well. Although he is at an age when rest and a slower pace of life are generally expected, he insists that movement is precisely what gives him strength and motivation.
“I run away from my own generation because everyone seems worn out to me. It’s important to stay physically active, and then age affects you less. It’s not just a hobby. It’s a love combined with a philosophy—to enjoy nature and find a kind of active peace for yourself,” says Radovan.
He points out that it is difficult for him to imagine a day without running and that a lack of activity would leave him feeling empty. According to him, retirement does not have to mean standing still. He still has responsibilities, spends time with his grandchildren, and takes care of everyday tasks, but running gives him a special boost.
“I get bored sitting at home doing nothing. In retirement, you still have responsibilities—you look after your grandchildren, take them places, and so on. But when you finish a run, it gives you a boost and a positive signal. You gain energy and the will to handle all your other obligations,” he explains.
He Also Pays Special Attention to His Diet
Radovan is equally mindful of his diet. After training, he usually enjoys a light meal consisting of an apple, chamomile tea, and honey.
He also has a message for younger generations: the most important thing is to get moving and find some form of physical activity, regardless of the sport or discipline. He believes it is crucial to stay away from bad habits and adopt a healthier lifestyle because, as he says, it is never too late to start.
“It Doesn’t Matter Which Sport, Just Train”
“It doesn’t matter which sport you choose, but you should train, stay off the streets, and dedicate yourself to a healthy lifestyle. It’s never too late. You may not know it when you’re young, but you can always get moving later in life,” Radovan says.
When asked how long he plans to keep running, his answer is simple and straightforward.
“As long as my body can handle it,” says the energetic retiree from Podgorica, who continues his daily ritual even in his eighties.
