The Bar Association of Serbia (AKS) has decided in an emergency assembly to suspend work for 30 days.
The reason for the suspension, as previously explained, is support for and alignment with students’ demands, as well as concerns over the erosion of the rule of law and threats to the autonomy and independence of the Serbian legal profession.
The AKS Management Board initially proposed a 15-day work stoppage, while the Šabac Bar Association proposed a one-month suspension, which was ultimately accepted at today’s emergency assembly.
Both proposals emphasized that lawyers would respect the minimum level of work necessary to protect the fundamental rights and interests of their clients.
Lawyers had recently halted work for a shorter period for the same reasons.
