The pilot of the helicopter involved in the collision with a plane in Washington has been identified. He was Ryan O’Hara from Georgia, a father of one child.

O’Hara was the chief of a three-member military crew aboard the Black Hawk helicopter, which crashed into an American Airlines plane, causing both aircraft to plunge into the Potomac River.

A total of 67 people lost their lives in the horrific accident—three from the helicopter and 64 from the plane—making it the deadliest aviation disaster in the U.S. since 2009.

O’Hara leaves behind his wife and one-year-old son.

The Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) at Parkview High School in Gwinnett County confirmed that O’Hara was one of their former students and one of the victims in the helicopter crash.

In a post that was later removed, it was also stated that O’Hara was fondly remembered as a young man who would fix things around the gym and as an important member of the shooting team.
