An Air Serbia plane that took off from Belgrade’s Nikola Tesla Airport for Moscow this evening was turned back to Belgrade after reaching southern Lithuania. According to unofficial information obtained by the Nova.rs portal, the passengers reportedly included Socialist Movement leader Aleksandar Vulin, Srbijagas Director Dušan Bajatović and Serbian People’s Party leader Nenad Popović.
As reported by Nova.rs, flight JU134 took off from Belgrade at 6:48 p.m., but an order was issued during the journey for the aircraft to return to its departure airport.
According to information obtained by the portal from its sources, the decision to return was reportedly made for security reasons, while no official explanation has been provided so far.
The same source claims that the order was issued by the airport’s director of corporate security.
According to unofficial information, three officials were on board the plane – Aleksandar Vulin, Dušan Bajatović and Nenad Popović. However, their presence on the flight has not yet been officially confirmed.
Milivojević Earlier Raised the Question of a Trip to Moscow
Interestingly, earlier in the day, Democratic Party President Srđan Milivojević spoke out, posting a question on the social media platform X about the evening flight to the Russian capital.
“And who is fleeing to Moscow on the 6:30 p.m. flight tonight?” Milivojević wrote.
His post preceded reports about the plane’s return, but there is still no official confirmation of who was among the passengers or the reasons for their trip.
Air Serbia and Civil Aviation Directorate Yet to Respond
The N1 editorial team contacted Air Serbia and the Civil Aviation Directorate requesting information about the reasons for the plane’s return, but no responses had been received by the time the article was published.
Journalists also tried to contact Aleksandar Vulin and Dušan Bajatović, but neither could be reached.
So far, there has been no official confirmation of why flight JU134 was interrupted, who made the final decision to turn it back, or whether the aforementioned officials were actually on board.
Further information is expected from the relevant institutions and the airline regarding the circumstances of the incident.
